Sport4Land & Community Engagement

Sport as a platform for environmental awareness, youth leadership and community participation — alongside UNCCD’s own Fashion4Land and Youth4Soil engagement tracks.

Photographs below are from the Youth Voice for COP17 Mongolia campaign, run by the Federation of Mongolian Beach Volleyball. They record that campaign’s activity, not MNCRIP implementation.

Why sport is in a land programme

Land stewardship is decided over decades, by the people who live on the land. Sport reaches rural youth and herding communities that conventional environmental programming struggles to engage, and it builds participation that outlasts a funding cycle.

The approach is not unusual within this convention. UNCCD’s own COP17 programme runs Fashion4Land and a Youth4Soil manifesto on the same principle: culture and participation are instruments of land policy, not decoration around it.

Youth Voice for COP17 Mongolia

Children and youth from Mongolia’s 21 provinces and 330 soums were invited to sign their support for the COP17 goals. These 28 photographs are from one signing session, held alongside a volleyball tournament in Ulaanbaatar.

Photographs courtesy of the Federation of Mongolian Beach Volleyball. The campaign is theirs; MNCRIP is not claiming it as platform delivery.
